Agra Fort is the city’s other major UNESCO-listed monument and offers an important perspective on Mughal history. Its palaces and courtyards also provide distant views towards the Taj Mahal.
Mehtab Bagh is a riverside garden opposite the Taj Mahal and is particularly attractive around sunset. It is useful for travellers who want a different photographic viewpoint.
Other options include Itmad-ud-Daulah, local marble-inlay workshops, food walks and nearby Fatehpur Sikri. Mathura and Vrindavan can also be added for travellers interested in spiritual and cultural experiences.
A one-day visit covers the principal monuments, while an overnight stay makes sunrise, sunset and local experiences easier to enjoy without rushing.
